The existence of version 11.0.23 in any production environment today constitutes a critical security vulnerability. As PDF files remain a primary vector for malware delivery, the use of an unpatched, five-year-plus-old parsing engine is an unacceptable risk. This paper concludes that while Reader XI was a milestone product, its usage must be retired immediately in favor of supported alternatives.
