The story takes place in the Viking village of Berk, where dragons are a constant threat. The villagers believe that dragons are mindless beasts that must be fought and killed. However, the protagonist, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, a young Viking who is awkward and scrawny, challenges this notion. After shooting down a dragon, Hiccup befriends the injured creature, a Night Fury named Toothless. As Hiccup learns to understand and train Toothless, he discovers that dragons are not just brutal beasts but intelligent and loyal creatures.
