The BlackBerry Priv was designed with insufficient thermal dissipation. When the CPU exceeds 40°C (104°F), the kernel introduces lag. When it exceeds 60°C (140°F), the modem and USB controllers can disconnect. To successfully enter Fastboot, the USB handshake must be perfect. A hot Priv will frequently drop into "Charging Mode" or "QHSUSB_BULK" (Qualcomm crash mode) instead of Fastboot.

| Problem | Solution | |---------|----------| | | Place the device in front of a fan or in a cool room (not fridge) for 15 mins. Thermal protection blocks Fastboot. | | Bootloader is permanently locked | Many Priv units (especially STV100-1 for AT&T) have bootloaders that ignore Fastboot commands. You’ll see FAILED (remote: unknown command) . Nothing you can do. | | Stuck in "Fastboot" but no PC recognition | Reinstall BlackBerry USB drivers. Use a USB 2.0 port, not 3.0. | | Volume buttons are physically damaged | The Priv’s volume rocker is a known failure point. Use Method 2 (ADB) exclusively. | | Device is hard-bricked | If the Priv shows a black screen and a blinking red LED, you need a Qualcomm EDL cable (a modified USB cable that shorts D+ and D-). That’s beyond Fastboot. |
