Born on January 23, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, Mariska Hargitay is the daughter of Hollywood legend Jayne Mansfield and Hungarian-born actor and bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay. Growing up in a show business family, Mariska was exposed to the entertainment industry from a young age. She began her acting career in the 1980s, landing small roles in films and television shows. Her breakthrough came in 1999 when she was cast as Detective Olivia Benson in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
