The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior received mixed reviews from critics, but was a moderate box office success, grossing over $60 million worldwide. The Hindi dubbed version of the film was well-received in India and other Hindi-speaking countries, where it was released on DVD and TV.

In The Mummy Returns , Mathayus makes a deal with Anubis. But in Scorpion King 2 , his powers come from a magical sword, not Anubis. Die-hard fans ignore the plot holes and treat the sequel as a "legend retelling."

He travels to the Underworld to retrieve a magical sword.
