Daryl Hall and John Oates met while attending Temple University in Philadelphia in the late 1960s. They began performing together, playing a mixture of rock, pop, and soul music. After a few years of gigging and recording demos, they secured a record deal with Atlantic Records in 1972. Their debut album, "Whole Oats," was released in 1972, but it was their second album, "The Silver Half-Dozen," that brought them their first taste of success.
